The Pros and Cons of working from home
It used to be a time when working from home was a dream or only a slight possibility. All of that became true right now, even if you were prepared for it or not. You can now find out if “working from home” is what you thought it would be. Check my list of pros and cons of working from home. Please feel free to share your experience also.
PROS
Flexible work schedule. Depending on the company you work at, in most cases, employees that work from home are given a chance to choose their work schedule. That means you can forget about early morning wake-ups, and you can take your time. I wouldn’t recommend starting in the afternoon, though. This pro is a big deal for parents that need to take care of kids because school & kindergartens are closed during coronavirus pandemic.
Money saver. All the money you used to spend during those five days a week at work is now in your wallet, no more transportation costs, no more money spent on a work wardrobe. People don’t realize how much they spend on all of this until they start working from home.
The productivity level may increase. If you like quiet environments, and you’re not a sociable person, working from home can be more appropriate for you, and it can boost your productivity.
Zero time spent in traffic. Those who are living in big cities know what I’m talking about. At least one hour a day, people spend commuting. What are you going to do now with all that time saved? The simple answer is, all the things you never had time to do before.
CONS
It is lonely. Now you realize how much you are going to miss your workplace camaraderie, the drama, the fun, the gossip, everything. You are going to miss the easy collaboration and social bonds every single day while you are all alone at home.
Lower levels of motivation. Are you an extrovert person and you work best when you collaborate with others on projects? If the answer is yes, the solitary work from home will affect your work mood and your energy. Taking one break that could last for hours can seriously affect your job’s tasks. Working from home requires a high level of self-motivation.
Your home can be a distracting environment. If you get easily distracted, working from home is not the best option for you. You may think that you can balance homes task and job tasks, but this can quickly get out of control if you don’t make a plan and a clear schedule.
